Jackson sunrise

5.22.22 - Wyoming: where the first sight you wake up to is a massive lake and boundless mountains. It was Day 5 of our roadtrip to the Pacific Northwest and we had just stayed the night on Fremont Lake in Pinedale. our next stop was Jackson.

We were near the end of our supply of jalapeño venison sausage and we were going to need to make a stop to stock up on food for the next several days. We got into Jackson and things were going fairly well and the scenery was spectacular. We set up camp at Gros Ventre Campground, just behind a small hill that shielded us from the wind gusts of the Grand Tetons. Canned chili over the fire, a couple of cold Montuckey beers, and warm winter coats made us feel right at home. The weather started to make my friend Max nervous, so we checked out the forecast.

Snowfall was nearly on our doorstep, and we had no choice but to hope for the best and set up our hammocks. To my surprise, I slept soundly through the entire night in my beefy Cabela’s sleeping bag. Until I leaned up out of my hammock and I saw the ground was covered in snow, including my hiking boots which were filled to the brim with the white powder. After gathering up our gear and attempting to dry what we could, we decided to go watch the sun crest over valley at the front door to the Tetons.

We shot a few pictures of ourselves, and one my friends actually lost her keys in the snow for about 45 minutes. Max found them after glancing up from checking his instagram momentarily. The rest of our time in the Tetons were filled with excitement and moments of facing the elements in the great outdoors. Nonetheless, it was nothing short of an adventure. One of many we would embark on throughout our journey westward.
